OREANDA-NEWS  Global warming in Russia is happening twice as fast as in the world. This was stated by the president of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Academician Gennady Krasnikov, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The scientist noted that Russian experts are carefully studying the situation and assessing the degree of influence of human activities on climate change compared to natural cycles. According to Krasnikov, many questions remain at the moment.

"For example, if we are talking about the anthropogenic nature of global warming, have we reached the point of no return or not yet?" the academician explained. He added that global warming creates many problems, including melting permafrost, damage to agriculture and invasion — the appearance of plants and animals on the territory that are not typical for the region.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that instead of global warming, a cold snap could occur.
