OREANDA-NEWS Currently, the BRICS countries are discussing the idea of developing a common unit of account that could become an alternative to the dollar. This was stated at the BRICS summit by Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, writes TASS.

The head of the department explained that this is necessary in order "not to depend on the single currency or the issuing center, which does not understand how it issues these banknotes."

The topic of creating a single currency for the participating countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and the Republic of South Africa) became one of the main topics at the summit.

At the same time, the introduction of a common currency now seems to be a difficult task, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier. At the same time, the idea does not cause a response from South Africa, whose authorities propose to focus on increasing the volume of trade in national currencies instead of creating a new one.
