With the arrival of a powerful cold cyclone, Novosibirsk was covered with snow. Komsomolskaya Pravda writes about the consequences of bad weather.
OREANDA-NEWS The snowfall in early October caught the townspeople by surprise, especially the drivers who did not have time to change their summer tires. Due to the snow porridge, Novosibirsk was gripped by ten-point traffic jams, congestion formed on almost all bridges and main highways. Hundreds of trucks have accumulated at the entrance to the city. In the morning alone, more than 20 road accidents were recorded in the city. Queues also gathered around tire repair shops.
Against the background of the snow collapse in Novosibirsk, taxi prices have risen. The cost of the trip, according to local residents, has doubled or tripled, and the waiting time exceeds half an hour.
About 15 flights were delayed at Tolmachevo Airport due to non-flying weather and about ten flights were canceled for both departure and arrival.
According to Novosibirsk Mayor Maxim Kudryavtsev, utilities have been switched to an enhanced mode of operation, and night shifts have been extended until lunch. The movement of snow removal equipment is hampered by traffic jams, so the main arteries of the city are being cleared more slowly than secondary streets. Almost 700 units of special equipment have been put on the roads.
As previously reported in the Hydrometeorological Center, at the beginning of October, 60 percent of Russia's territory was covered with snow. The Far Eastern District and most of the Siberian District are almost entirely under snow. By the end of the week, an increase in snow cover is expected in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug and in the east of the Ural District.
