OREANDA-NEWS  The Russian Navy has received a new diesel-electric submarine Kronstadt of Project 677 Lada. The flag-raising ceremony took place in St. Petersburg.

"With the raising of the flag, the submarine officially joined the Navy. In accordance with the order announced at the ceremony by the Commander—in-Chief of the Navy Nikolai Evmenov, the ship was enlisted in the formation of the Kola Flotilla of the heterogeneous forces of the Northern Fleet," the military department said in a statement.

The commander—in-chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, said that during sea trials the submarine showed its best qualities - stealth, maneuverability and reliability.

The Lada submarines are designed to protect naval bases and the sea coast, as well as defeat submarines and surface ships. Submarines can carry mines, torpedoes and Kalibr cruise missiles.
