OREANDA-NEWS The State Duma Committee on Health Protection recommended the adoption in the first reading of a bill banning gender reassignment.

The document submitted to the lower house at the end of May proposes to establish a complete ban on medical interventions aimed at sex change, as well as to exclude state registration of sex change without surgery.

According to Deputy Speaker Pyotr Tolstoy, "almost 400 parliamentarians" became the author of the initiative.
He also noted that the bill provides for an exception for congenital anomalies in children. But in this case, medical intervention can be allowed only by the decision of the medical commission, and not by an individual doctor alone.
