OREANDA-NEWS  The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation proposes to develop a mechanism for the seizure of stolen assets abroad after the end of the investigation, Chairman of the RF IC Alexander Bastrykin said.

Bastrykin said that requests can often be executed by foreign competent authorities for a long time, sometimes for several years. During this time, the investigation can be completed and the case sent to court. At the same time, according to him, the lack of a response does not prevent the judicial review of the case, but the right to compensation for damages remains unfulfilled.

According to the chairman of the RF IC, if the response of the competent authorities comes after the criminal case is considered by the court, then a mechanism is needed that will determine the procedure for the seizure of property obtained by criminal means and taken abroad.

"Currently, the mechanisms of international search and seizure of criminal assets are insufficiently regulated in the criminal process. It would be possible to provide for a procedure for sending materials to the court by the relevant authorized body to obtain a decision on arrest or confiscation upon completion of the investigation," Bastrykin said.
