OREANDA-NEWS The White House confirmed that Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov was summoned to the State Department last Thursday, March 30, where he was received by Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland.

"We can confirm that Ambassador Antonov was summoned to the State Department on March 30, and he met with... Nuland," John Kirby, coordinator of strategic Communications at the US National Security Council, said at a briefing.

The Russian Embassy does not comment on reports about the call, which, according to local media, is connected with the arrest in Russia on suspicion of espionage of American journalist Evan Gershkovich.

At the end of March, the FSB of the Russian Federation announced that the correspondent of the Moscow bureau of the WSJ Gershkovich was detained in Yekaterinburg on suspicion of espionage in the interests of the US government.
