OREANDA-NEWS  In the summer of 2023, there was a significant shortage of personnel in the catering market in Russia. Both the enterprises themselves and job search services speak about the shortage of personnel, although a year ago the trend was the opposite, Kommersant writes.

In July, the number of vacancies doubled in annual terms, according to Coffee Like, as well as on the Avito Work and Naimix platforms. SuperJob reports a 17 percent increase in the number of vacancies, and ProPersonnel — by 45 percent.

However, it is impossible to call the growth of the market the reason, there are no more waiters amid a reduction in the number of applicants by 7-12 percent. This state of affairs, restaurateurs warn, will lead to higher prices for services.

Lyudmila Kislova, HR Director of Unirest, notes that the situation is affected by the low birth rate in the 1990s, which negatively affects many areas of the economy. Also, personnel are being washed out of the industry to work in the public sector and the military-industrial complex, where they offer a lot of money. The Anderson restaurant chain sees a decrease in the migration flow from post-Soviet countries as one of the reasons, since the fall in the ruble exchange rate made labor migration unprofitable.
