OREANDA-NEWS  The United States will no longer conduct trade negotiations with Canada. In addition, Washington will impose duties on goods from a neighboring country. The American leader Donald Trump wrote about this on the Truth Social network.

"We are terminating all discussions on trade issues with Canada from now on. We will notify Canada of the amount of the duty that it will have to pay for doing business with the United States within the next seven days," the US president said.

The relevant decision was made due to the fact that Ottawa imposed a digital services tax on American technology companies, Trump explained. He noted that it was extremely difficult to trade with Canada before, but the latest actions of the Canadian authorities are "a direct and blatant" attack on the United States.

The American leader also accused Canada of copying the actions of the European Union, which is currently discussing the possibility of introducing such a tax in relation to Washington.

Earlier, Veronika Nikishina, head of the Russian Export Center, shared her opinion that the duties imposed by Trump open up new trade opportunities for Russia.
