OREANDA-NEWS The box office receipts of Russian cinemas in 2022 amounted to almost 24 billion rubles, which is 42% less than in 2021, the Cinema Fund reported.

"In 2022, the total box office receipts of the film distribution of the Russian Federation amounted to 23.7 billion rubles, of which 12.3 billion rubles (52.1%) were collected from the sale of tickets to Russian cinema sessions," says the report on the results of the film distribution for the past year, presented by the Unified Automated System of information about film screenings in cinemas (EAIS) of the Cinema Foundation.

As stated in the message, "the annual volume of the film distribution market by box office decreased by 41.9% compared to 2021 (in ruble terms - by 17.1 billion rubles) and 42.9% by the number of tickets sold, but exceeded the volume of film distribution fees of the pandemic 2020 by 792 million rubles."

At the same time, the indicators of Russian cinema exceeded the level of 2021 by 18.5% in box office receipts and by 16.3% in attendance. In total, 83.2 million tickets were sold for film screenings in the country's cinemas in 2022, including 46.2 million (55.5%) for Russian cinema screenings.

Collections of foreign films in 2022 amounted to 11.3 billion rubles, 37 million tickets were sold for the sessions of foreign films. Compared to 2021, the decrease in box office receipts and attendance amounted to -62.6% and -65.1%, respectively (19 billion rubles, 69 million viewers), the fund said.

The five largest films in terms of tickets sold in 2022 were the adventure fantasy directed by Dmitry Dyachenko "The Last Hero: Messenger of Darkness", the adventure thriller "Anchored: It doesn't appear on the cards", the historical drama directed by Anton Megerdichev "The Heart of Parma", the superhero film based on Marvel comics "Spider-Man: No Way Home", the family animated film "Zveropoy 2".
