Max von Sydow was born on April 10, 1929. His film debut took place in 1949. The actor became famous for roles in films directed by Ingmar Bergman: The Seventh Seal (1957), Wild Strawberries (1957), The Virgin Spring (1960), Persona (1966), Hour of the Wolf (1968) and others.

Max von Sydow became an Oscar nominee twice. In 1989, he claimed a statuette in the nomination for Best Actor for the film Pelle the Conqueror, and in 2012 he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the film Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
