The streaming giant Netflix, which has repeatedly announced plans to create its own major franchise in the spirit of "Harry Potter" or "Star Wars", has acquired the Roald Dahl Story Company, which deals with the legacy of the famous British writer Roald Dahl. Together with the company, the rights to all the author's works were transferred to the streamer, respectively. This is reported by the publication Deadline.

According to Netflix, the company is considering creating a shared universe based on the works of the writer. The franchise may include animated and feature films and TV series, as well as theatrical productions, immersive shows, video games and the publication of printed materials. The amount of the transaction with the Roald Dahl Story Company was not disclosed.

Previously, Netflix has already acquired partial rights to Dahl's works. In 2018, the streamer acquired the rights to adapt 16 titles as animated films and TV series. At the moment, according to the results of the transaction, a series based on the world of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is already being developed, from Taika Waititi and Phil Johnston, as well as a musical cartoon based on the novel "Matilda" together with Sony.
