OREANDA-NEWS The Russian side is studying Myanmar's proposal to cancel visa requirements on a reciprocal basis by signing a corresponding agreement, the Russian Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti.

Earlier, the Minister of Hotel and Tourism Affairs of Myanmar, That Thae Khan, asked for a visa-free regime for her citizens to enter Russia.

Commenting on this statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that "taking into account the friendly nature of relations with Myanmar, the Russian side is taking consistent measures to simplify the procedure for mutual travel of citizens." The ministry recalled that "to date, the Russian-Myanmar intergovernmental agreement signed in 2000 on the abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic and official/official passports has been successfully applied."
