OREANDA-NEWS  On the night of Thursday, August 13, Russians will be able to see the Perseid starfall. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Moscow Planetarium.

The astronomical event can be observed from midnight to dawn, and its peak will be at 5:00. According to experts, an increased number of meteors appear in the sky a few days before and after the starfall. On Thursday night, the frequency of their appearance will increase to one or two meteors per minute. The observers were advised to look in an easterly direction high above the horizon.

The Perseid starfall occurs every year when the Earth passes through a plume of tiny particles left by comet 109P/Swift–Tuttle. The particles crash into the planet's atmosphere at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour and immediately burn up, and a short flash leaves a bright glowing trail. The stream was named after the constellation Perseus, from which "shooting stars" fly out.

Earlier, Russians were named the best places to watch the stars in August. The most suitable location for this activity is considered to be the south of Russia.
