OREANDA-NEWS The first hotel in Russia to receive stars according to the new classification system is the three-star Caravella complex in the Krasnodar Territory, the press service of Roskachestvo told RIA Novosti.

On January 1, amendments to the law "On the Fundamentals of Tourism Activity" came into force in Russia, forming a new classification system for accommodation facilities and other objects of the tourism industry. The classification now consists of two stages: self-assessment and classification into categories from one to five stars. At the first stage, the accommodation facilities are independently evaluated and their type is determined. After completing the self-assessment, you can be classified and receive a star rating.

"The Caravella Hotel complex in the Krasnodar Territory has become the first hotel in Russia to be classified according to regulations in force since the beginning of 2025. The hotel has successfully passed the classification procedure by the Roskachestvo-Tourism authority and received the three-star category," Roskachestvo said.

"The ongoing reform in the field of classification of accommodation facilities will create a single verified register through which tourists will be able to obtain the necessary information about hotels and other accommodation facilities, their equipment, room stock, and the range of services provided," said Alexandra Shershneva, head of the certification and classification body Roskachestvo—Tourism, quoted in the message.

"The new system assumes that all tourist facilities, including hotels, sanatoriums, campgrounds, beaches, and ski trails will have to meet certain quality standards," she concluded.

In addition, starting from September 1, it will be prohibited in Russia to post information on travel agents without a link to the registry of accommodation facilities. Starting from March 1, 2026, the authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation will monitor the fulfillment of these requirements.
