OREANDA-NEWS The State Tretyakov Gallery will present exhibitions in China in 2024 and 2025, preliminary agreements have already been reached, the Beijing and Shanghai museums intend to bring exhibition projects to Russia, Elena Pronicheva, general director of the gallery, said on Monday.

"We are grateful to Elena Mikhailovna (Director of the Department of Museums of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation Elena Kharlamova - IF) for confirming our major international exhibition projects. We have received confirmation that a large exhibition project (will be held in China), we are very much looking forward to it, these will be projects in Beijing and Shanghai," Pronicheva said at the strategic session of the Museum Routes of Russia project.

She clarified that there are already "preliminary agreements with the National Museum of Beijing and the Shanghai Museum." The projects will be held in 2024 and 2025. Negotiations are also underway on which exhibition projects Chinese museums will bring to Russia.

Since March 3, 2022, the Ministry of Culture of Russia has suspended the temporary issuance and temporary export of museum items from the territory of Russia to foreign exhibitions. At first, it was expected that cooperation with friendly countries (in particular, the temporary export of art objects to exhibitions) would be resumed from 2023.

Mikhail Shvydkoi, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation, expressed the opinion that the restoration of inter-museum exchanges until 2025 would be unrealistic, since Russian cultural values are not protected in unfriendly countries. He later said that such a ban could be relaxed for several countries, including China.
