OREANDA-NEWS. November 13, 2009. Minister of Defence of Russia, Anatoly Serdyukov met with the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia on questions of guaranteeing state protection of rights and freedoms of servicemen, citizens discharged from military service and their families’ members, and also civilian personnel of the Armed Forces of Russia.

During the meeting they discussed a wide range of issues relating to social welfare in the Armed Forces of Russia.

Russia's Defence Minister and the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia signed a memorandum on further cooperation.

Following the MOU the sides plan to exchange information on violations of the rights and freedoms of citizens, to co-ordinate implementation of measures aimed at detecting, removing and preventing violations of the rights and freedoms of citizens, to work together to improve legislation on the rights and freedoms of citizens and to bring it into line with generally recognised principles and norms of international law, to co-operate in the field of legal education on the rights and freedoms of citizens, forms and methods of their protection.
