OREANDA-NEWS. September 02, 2016. At the 35th International Geological Congress, Bruker today introduced the 3rd generation Advanced Mineral Identification and Characterization System (AMICS) software package, for both their QUANTAXTM energy dispersive X-ray spectrometers (EDS) for SEM and their benchtop M4 TORNADO Micro-XRF spectrometer. AMICS is a highly innovative software suite for automated identification and quantification of mineral and synthetic phases. Its versatile automation and forward-thinking quantitative analysis capabilities make AMICS an ideal tool for research in geological and material sciences, as well as for fast, efficient and precise mineral identification and classification in various industrial and exploration applications, such as mining, oil & gas, coal, cement, refining and recycling. In conjunction with the Bruker QUANTAXTM EDS system, AMICS allows mineral liberation analysis and other mineral processing optimization data to be generated. This includes modal mineralogy, particle and grain sizing, calculated assay, elemental distribution, mineral/elemental recovery, association as well as locking. The M4 TORNADOAMICS is the world’s first automated mineral analyzer based on X-ray fluorescence technology. This technology can produce comparable results to MLA and QEMSCAN or other SEM-EDS based technologies down to micron-size scale. It is a great tool for capturing the texture of an uncrushed sample for ore body knowledge development, which would be otherwise not possible with SEM analysis due to the large size of such samples (e.g. drill cores). Due to its high speed and ability to analyze unprepared samples, this instrument helps make more informed decisions in selecting which samples should be further investigated with more time-consuming SEM-EDS analyses.
