OREANDA-NEWS. Sales of passenger cars in Europe grew by 7.3% in September to 1 million 496 thousand 206 cars. As the representatives of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) noted, it is the best result for September in the history of the European car market. For the first nine months of 2016 sales of cars in Europe were 11 million 607 thousand 266 units – more by 7.7% than a year before.

As it was noted in the review of the European car market in September, among the automakers the largest number of cars in the European Union was sold by Volkswagen - 162,168 vehicles (+ 3.8%). Second place went to Ford with 108 303 sold cars (-0.7%). The third place is occupied by Opel / Vauxhall, which sold 102 958 cars - by 3.9% more than the year before. The top five of leaders is closed by Renault (97,066 units, + 19.1%) and Mercedes-Benz (91 567 units, + 17.9%).
