OREANDA-NEWS. The European Union wants to discuss the gas debt settlement reached by Ukraine and Russia this week. A meeting of the EU experts with participation of the Ukrainian and the Russian sides will take place on October 25, reported the Official website www.kmu.gov.ua.

This was stated by the EU Energy Commissioner's spokesman Ferran Tarradellas Espuny in Brussels.

According to him, the EU expects to obtain information from Ukraine and Russia on the gas agreement, which will help it to analyze the deal's possible effect on future gas supplies to the EU.

President Viktor Yushchenko, during the Vilnius Energy Summit on October 10 and 11, stated that Ukraine will fulfil its obligations on timely transit of oil and gas to the EU.

According to the agreement reached with Russia, Ukraine will clear its economic entities' gas debt to Gazprom by using the gas from its underground storage facilities.
