OREANDA-NEWS. December 17, 2007. New service – MegaSync – had been launched in the whole MegaFon's network in Russia, the company's press service reporeted. The service will allow the subscribers to use on-line mobile e-mail freely, to automatically synchronize contacts, calendar and tasks, to block or remove personal data if mobile handset is lost or stolen and many other things. The solution is aimed at both business-users and individual subscribers.   

According to Alexey Nichiporenko, First Deputy CEO of OJSC "MegaFon", "MegaFon" is the first in Russia to launch such service. This service is aimed, first and foremost, at active people, who do not want to drop out from information field even when there is no PC at hand  connected to the Internet. MegaFon's partner in this project is Nokia, the Finnish company: the service is built on the basis of Nokia Intellisync platform.

MegaSync provides MegaFon’s subscribers with a unique opportunity to synchronize several mailboxes, these can be both public mail service (Mail.ru, Yandex.ru etc.) and corporate or home computer supporting corporate e-mail.

The fact that all user data are encrypted and stored in secured form is the advantage of MegaSync.  Data encryption is possible via SSL (Security Socket Layer) protocol, which is also used in banking business. Hence, subscriber's data is protected from the outside world with a secure firewall, which is as hard to intrude as a bank safe. There are additional obstacles for unauthorized access: user name and password are used for entering the system both via mobile handset and via the web.

After its launch MegaSync service is available in all regions, covered by MegaFon's network, also in roaming. Standard Internet hot spot is used for GPRS/EDGE access. Technically, the service is built upon Internet-service principle: it is based on the uniform platform, to which all service users are connected.  MegaSync works under certified protocols with various mail platforms: Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, Novell GroupWise and any  IMAP/POP3/XML servers.

The fact that MegaSync software is installed within corporate network is the apparent advantage to corporate customers. Hence, information confidentiality is totally within the competence of respective units of the client. Another advantage of this service – client software for mobile handsets – addresses a wide range of platforms (Symbian/S60, Windows Mobile, PalmOS & UIQ, J2ME).

In order to adjust the service it is necessary to send SMS to short number 1116. The message shall contain the password created by the user. The responding message contains login and password for service access, it also contains a link to the service site. Mobile number and password, sent by the user, are used as login. Web-site  www.MegaSync.ru http://www.MegaSync.ru is the basic setting instrument. On the first stage the service can be downloaded from the service site to Nokia handsets.

MegaSync software is compatible with communicators Nokia Series 60 3rd Edition. Currently the following Nokia models are supported: E60, E61, Е61i, Е90, N73, N80, N95. During the project an agreement was signed with Nokia: under this agreement MegaSync is "pre-installed" to new business-communicator Е90, and also to communicators  E61i and Е51 when handsets are manufactured. In the future the list of handset models and handset manufacturers will be extended. When using MegaSync the subscriber pays only for data transfer via GPRS/EDGE under current operator's tariffs.
