TNK-BP Named Best Innovative Company in Ukraine
OREANDA-NEWS. February 28, 2008. The all-Ukraine rating program “Guardia” awarded the most successful managers and companies of Ukraine in 2007 in the Hall of Honor at the National Museum of the 1941–1945 Great Patriotic War History in Kiev. TNK-BP was named the winner of the contest in the nomination “Best Innovative Company”, reported the press-centre of TNK-BP.
“Being chosen by experts in this nomination is very pleasant,” said Dmitry Logvinenko, Executive Director, LLC TNK-BP Commerce. “After seven years of working in Ukraine, the company has become a leader of the fuel market owing, first and foremost, to nonstandard and innovative solutions in technologies of corporate management, oil refining, and trading.”
The top manager of the company informed that the first service station in the country will be launched this spring in Kiev under the world-renowned brand of BP, whose guiding principles are innovation, efficiency, and progress.
“We have serious plans aimed at development of the Lisichansk Refinery, wholesale trade of oil products, and expansion of our retail network. We are going to keep ourselves and our rivals busy,” stressed Mr. Logvinenko.
TNK-BP is an international vertically integrated holding and one of the ten largest oil companies in the world according to the volume of its oil production.
The four lines of activities of TNK-BP in Ukraine include oil refining, wholesale trade of oil products, retail trade of oil products, and oil transit. LLC TNK-BP Commerce performs the functions of the corporate management center of TNK-BP in Ukraine.
The Lisichansk Refinery (Closed Joint-Stock Company “Lisichansk Oil Investments Company”) is the main oil refining asset of TNK-BP in Ukraine. Prior to the advent of investors in 2000, the refinery lost 34% of its rated capacity, oil refining dropped to one sixth of its former volume, and staggered operation and emergency shutdowns became usual for the refinery.
The advent of TNK-BP to the Lisichansk Refinery was a momentous event for the refinery and the entire oil-refining industry of Ukraine. The company invested more than $200 million into the refinery and built five new production facilities. In a short period of time, the refinery has grown from an outsider into the leader of oil refining in Ukraine.
In 2000–2007, the Lisichansk Refinery started production of high-octane gasoline A-98, jet fuel TS-1, and paving and roofing bitumen. The load of the oil primary distillation unit increased by more than twofold. The depth of conversion reached 67%. The Lisichansk Refinery became the first and only refinery in the country that produced more gasoline than fuel oil. Integration of new technologies and renewal and modernization of production assets made it possible for the Lisichansk Refinery to switch over to a two-year period between overhauls.
In 2006, the Lisichansk Refinery was acknowledged the best oil refining enterprise of the international holding TNK-BP. The refinery was the first enterprise of the Ukrainian oil refining industry certified according to three international standards in quality management, health and safety, and environmental protection.
In 2007, the Lisichansk Refinery received a certificate for its integrated management system and became the first company in Ukraine to start production of diesel fuel with sulfur content as low as 50 ppm, whose quality meets the requirements of the Euro-4 standard.
TNK-BP is implementing a large-scale environmental protection program. The recent achievements of the company include a steam condensate gathering and processing unit installed and put into operation at the Lisichansk Refinery, a pump station for removal of storm runoffs, a unit for utilization of sulfurous and alkaline wastes, reconstruction and upgrade of the first line of the elemental sulfur production unit, and construction of a process condensate treatment unit. TNK-BP has built a complex for biochemical treatment of wastewaters at the Lisichansk Refinery.
The company uses the latest technologies for construction and operation of TNK service stations and installs modern fuel dispensers and double-walled tanks at its fuel stations for minimization of the risk of soil contamination with oil products.
TNK-BP Ukraine is focused on implementation of major investment projects aimed at meeting the latest and most stringent requirements in trade and service provision. The company is concentrated on further development of the Lisichansk Refinery and its refining facilities and construction of a high-quality sales network.
