UTair’s Mi-26 Embarks on Unique Project in North America
OREANDA-NEWS On 07 November was announced, that a Mi-26 helicopter belonging to UTair (UTair Aviation, JSC) started a series of helicopter operations in North and West Canada.
Under a contract with the Canada-based Airborne Energy Solutions Ltd, UTair will be engaged in operations to carry heavy bulky load to the oil and gas fields developed in the British Columbia province. A half-year contract presumes that the Mi-26 will be employed mainly for external load operations. The helicopter is currently based at the Whitecourt Airport. In line with the contract, the works are to be completed by April 2009.
Mi-26T crew members have been trained to fly in North America, and the necessary regulatory approvals have been received in Canada. UTair is the only Russian helicopter operator in the Americas, where it has been present since 2006.
UTair boasts over twenty years of experience in operating the Mi-26 helicopter which is capable of carrying total cargo of up to 20 tonnes inside the cabin and on external sling for distances of up to 800 kilometers. In this respect, it is unmatched by any rotorcraft currently in service. UTair’s fleet includes over 20 Mi-26 helicopters.
