Russian Railways to Invest 4,9 bln Roubles in Marshalling Yards
OREANDA-NEWS. January 30, 2009. The development and reconstruction of marshalling yards is a top priority for the Company, which will invest 4.9 billion roubles in 2009 to improve their efficiency, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.
In 2008, Russian Railways allocated 5 billion roubles from its investment programme to the development and technical upgrading of yards, including 0.3 billion roubles for design and project work.
In 2008, extensive work was carried out at 37 sites, of which 12 were yards which came into operation. Start-up facilities were commissioned at 8 stations, with their modernisation to continue in 2009.
In accordance with the Company’s investment programme, it is planned to spend 4.9 billion roubles on the development of yards in 2009, with work on mechanisation, automation and renovation scheduled at 33 stations.
The development and reconstruction of yards will help increase the throughput capacity and processing capacity of main railway lines and as a result reduce the waiting time for wagons and carriages at stations.
