OREANDA-NEWS. July 30, 2009. IBC Executive Director Kuban Ashyrkulov and chief lawyer Gulnara Akhmatova participated in the training course for parliamentary leaders of non-governmental organizations. The training was organized with the assistance of the Parliament of the European Union and UNDP, and was held at the Issyk-Kul Lake, reported the press-centre of IBC.

Chairman of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, Professor Zaynidin Kurmanov told about the formation and development of parliamentarism in Kyrgyzstan, as well as the role of Jogorku Kenesh (parliament) in the system of public bodies in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Expert of the Parliamentary project Asqar Jakishev acquainted the participants to the meeting with legislative functions of Parliament and legislative processes in the country. 

Representatives of non-governmental sector expressed particular interest in the interaction of the Parliament with the institutions of civil society. This information was provided by project manager Gulmira Mamatkerimova.  Project expert Karybek Jigitekov explained how civil society can participate in the legislative process.

Training participants also learned about how the Parliament is involved in the formation of governments, as well as the budget process.
