OREANDA-NEWS. August 03, 2009. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko announced nowadays there exist no objective reasons for bankruptcy of banks in Ukraine and cessation of payments of savings to the citizens. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko said during a meeting with the depositors of Rodovid Bank.

“There are no grounds for ruining of banks, cessation of payments as every country has a protection system,” the Head of Government stressed.

Yulia Tymoshenko explained 187 banks are functioning in Ukraine, 2 out of which are national ones – Oshchadbank and Ukreximbank. “These two banks, despite the crisis, haven’t ceased operations, not for an hour, they are working and serving all the economics and they are two banks the Government is answerable for”.

At the same time, according to the Premier, the most complicated situation for now is with 4 private banks (Nadra Bank, Rodovid Bank, Ukrprombank and Bank Kyiv) that stopped serving the clients and payment of savings.

The PM explained the Gov’t has no levers of influence on private banks: “private owners and the National Bank are answerable for the private banks”.

“But, as the Prime Minister, I and the Government, we have realized these 4 banks are facing non-standard problems that’s why we have got the hang of things despite the fact that it is not our problem… we have done that exceptionally with an aim to make all people who receive money through the banking system understand, no matter how hard it is within the country, the Government will not leave you without support,” Yulia Tymoshenko stressed.
