OREANDA-NEWS. August 27, 2009. The insurance company ROSNO is ready to fulfil its obligations to RusHydro employees who suffered from the catastrophe at the Sayano-Shushenskaya HES. The insurer is accepting and promptly processing the applications of insurants and their relatives. To ensure maximum assistance to the victims, the company has simplified its insurance compensation procedure, reported the press-centre of ROSNO.

The existing ROSNO contracts provide accident insurance coverage to employees of the Sayano-Shushensky HER and Sayano-Shushenskaya HES. The insurance coverage protects against the following risks: partial loss of working ability, permanent and complete loss of working ability due to an accident, or death due to an accident. The insurance amount per insured person depends on the employee category. Considering the scale of the tragedy and acting in the victims’ interests, the insurance company has simplified and accelerated the procedure for payment of insurance compensations to insurants and their families.

"We give our condolences to the families of the HES employees affected by this terrible tragedy. Providing help and assistance to insurants is our top priority. We decided to minimize the document package required for payment of insurance compensations to the victims or their families, leaving just two documents for the risk „Injury“ and three documents for the risk „Death“. I will do my best to ensure that people get compensations as soon and as easily as possible", says Mr. Hannes S. Chopra, CEO of OJSC IC ROSNO.

Payments to the insurants injured as a result of the accident will be effected on the basis of the shortened document package: written application and certificate from a medical institution describing the nature of sustained injuries. According to the existing terms and conditions of the insurance contracts, compensation payments under the risk "Death" will be effected in favour of legal successors of the deceased, in accordance with the procedure stipulated by the RF legislation. The insurance company is entitled to make payment under the risk "Death" upon receipt from the legal successor of a payment application, death certificate, and notarial resolution on assumption of legal succession.

Other documents required for claim processing in such cases will be collected by ROSNO on its own, with the insurant’s assistance. OJSC IC ROSNO has sent OJSC RusHydro a letter asking for assistance in solving the issues described above.

In addition, the company has everything to effect payments as soon as possible (within two days after submission by the insurant of all documents listed above). As of 25 August 2009, the company has received five applications from the insured beneficiaries. Acting in the victims’ interests, ROSNO has sent enquiries to the insurant and to the relevant medical institutions, asking to provide detailed lists of victims and their diagnoses. If the victim is presently in a hospital, and has not yet contacted the insurance company, ROSNO will send its representative to sign the form of a payment application. This measure will enable speeding up payments to those who have sustained injuries.

The volumes and procedure for payment of insurance compensation under the insurance contract covering property owned by RusHydro will be based on the results of current expert examinations, and will be advised in a separate message. ROSNO experts continue their work in the internal investigative commission analyzing the reasons of the catastrophe.
