OREANDA-NEWS. February 26, 2010. A new Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft, delivered from the Boeing plant in Seattle, landed at Boryspil International Airport. This is t he third aircraft of this type to join the fleet of Ukraine International Airlines in the last seven months, reported the press-centre of UIA.

The airplane has passed an official procedure of registration in Ukraine and received the registration number UR-PSC.

As a part of UIA’s program of fleet renewal and expansion, one more new Boeing 737-800 is scheduled for delivery in April 2010. Thus, at the beginning of summer schedule, the number of this generation of aircraft in the UIA fleet will reach 4.

All of the new UIA Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft have passenger capacity up to 189 seats and two variants of seats grouping – economy and business.

UIA’s Boeing 737-800’s are equipped with the latest navigation equipment and CFM 56-7B26 engines. A high safety level and a considerable decrease of fuel consumption make the aircraft more efficient, environmentally friendly and easier to maintain. According to UIA’s calculations, fuel economy on a passenger seat is 14% less as compared to a Boeing 737-400, 25% – to a Boeing 737-300 and 34% as compared to the Boeing 737-500 fuel expenses.

Besides, all airplanes of this modification generation come with special extended raised wingtips – “winglets” - that are designed to improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the aircraft by reducing drag, allowing for fuel savings, and, consequently, lower carbon emissions.

“Now a quarter of the UIA fleet consists of new modern aircraft with the highest levels of operational efficiency, economy and passenger comfort. This will contribute greatly to the realization of the company’s long-term strategic plans – Sergiy Fomenko, UIA Vice President Sales & Marketing commented. – Opening a number of new destinations: Almaty, Dehli, Pula, Dubrovnik, Split scheduled for this year will become possible thanks to the presence of the Boeing 737-800 in the UIA’s fleet. The successful implementation of the UIA’s fleet renewal and expansion program will allow us not only to expand our network, but also to increase profitability in order to continue successful competition at the air transportation market”.

UIA has been operating Boeing aircraft since its foundation in 1992. Today UIA’s fleet consists of 19 modern Boeing 737 aircraft including the new airplane.

Ukraine International Airlines has its own unique base for full technical and engineering maintenance of Boeing aircraft, which provides technical services not only to UIA aircraft but to those of other airlines.
