OREANDA-NEWS. September 07, 2010. Due to information disseminating by some mass media that retail chains in the Altai region have pushed up prices for food products by 300-400%, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) would like to state that such information is incorrect, reported the press-centre FAS Russia.

Weekly monitoring of prices for socially important food products (flour, bread, whole milk, and sunflower oil), carried out by the office of FAS Russia in the Altai region, disproves information about soaring prices. The latest monitoring data show that the situation with prices for the main food products in the region remains stable or that the prices for some products have slightly increased – by no more than 0.5 – 2%. For some positions (for instance, sour cream) prices have gone down.

Should individual producers of retail chains fix unreasonably high prices for food products and engage in speculations and profiteering on the market, FAS Russia has instructed its office in the Altai region to immediately employ antimonopoly enforcement measures (to initiate cases and impose fines, including “turnover” fines).
