OREANDA-NEWS. January 14, 2011. Cargo throughput of the port of Ust-Luga in 2010 increased by 13.6% compared with the previous year’s figures and reached 11,810,963 tons, the Ust-Luga Company’s press-service said (ULC is customer-developer of the port). Imports of cars over the past year rose to 65,521 units.

The volume of general cargo for the calendar year amounted to 6,012,181 tons, coal transshipment reached 8,937, 273 tons, sulfur – 1,104,069 tons. The port’s stevedores handled 778,418 tons of iron, 255,397 tons of forest, 58,229 tons of wood pellets and 53,028 tons of phosphates. Shipment of other goods totaled 618,534 tons.

Port of Ust-Luga is located on Russia’s border with the EU. Its 16-m deep harborage and a 3.7-km-long approach canal make Ust-Luga the only Russian port on the Baltic Sea capable to accommodate 75,000dwt bulkers and 120,000dwt tankers. In 2009, the port of Ust-Luga handled 10,3 million tons of cargoes and 1.031 ships. The boundaries of Ust-Luga port were established by the Russ. Govt’s decree on May 20, 2009.
