OREANDA-NEWS. January 31, 2011. From its Mill 5000, Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has delivered the 500,000th tonne of sheet products to United Metallurgical Company (OMK). From November 2009, these broad sheets have been manufactured by MMK for Vyksa Steel Works (VSW). They are designed for the production of large-diameter pipes that are used in the construction of main oil and gas pipelines, reported the press-centre of OMK.

"OMK is MMK's strategic partner and one of the main customers for sheets produced at Mill 5000," said Chairman of the MMK Board of Directors Viktor Rashnikov. According to him, MMK-made thick plates have been bought by OMK from the time of launch of Mill 5000. "We are interested in fully meeting our customers' demand for high quality thick plates produced to international standards," added Mr. Rashnikov. "MMK promptly and efficiently brought Mill 5000 to its designed capacity," said OMK President Vladimir Markin. "Development and adoption of new technology enabled the company to become the largest sheet-product supplier for VSW."

MMK-made sheets are used to produce pipes for such projects as ESPO, Purpe–Samotlor, Ukhta–Torzhok, Sakhalin–Khabarovsk–Vladivostok, and others.
