OREANDA-NEWS. March 29, 2011. Heineken plans to produce about 15,000 tonnes of malt barley in Belarus’ Gomel Region in 2011, up 150% on the year, the company said in a press release.

The brewery will cooperate with 49 farms of the region.

This year, Heineken will be using Philadelphia and Sebastian varieties.

Last year’s unfavorable weather conditions affected Belarusian barley harvest, and Heineken had to reduce procurement volumes.

Nevertheless, Heineken managed to provide enough barley for its production in Belarus. The company works in Belarus using its own raw materials only.

Heineken started cultivating barley in Belarus in 2008.
