Interpipe Endorses Go Green! Declaration Initiated by UN in Ukraine
OREANDA-NEWS. April 1, 2011. Steel pipe and railway wheel company Interpipe has signed the Declaration “Go Green!” initiated by the UN in
The main aim of the “Green office” campaign is to make offices friendly to the environment by reducing the consumption of natural resources – energy, water and paper. For Interpipe, creating a “green” culture in their offices appeals to its employees as it follows the rule of the 3 Rs – Reuse, Reduce, Recycle.
Dmitriy Kisilevskiy, Head of Corporate Affairs at Interpipe said: ‘The culture of environment awareness starts from small things. Even before signing the Declaration, at Interpipe we changed luminous tube lamps to energy saving ones, employees printed on both sides of paper, refilled cartridges, etc. After signing the document we have started to inform employees about the necessity to preserve natural resources, increasing their environmental awareness.’
Through the channels of internal communications, Interpipe employees were informed about the main points of the “green office” concept and the importance of keeping to its principles. A special column was created in the corporate newspaper where employees can look for new information on how they can help to make the planet “greener”. Moreover, special containers for paper waste were placed in Interpipe’s main office and at its production sites.
The issue of ecology, energy saving and a caring attitude towards the environment is a foundation of Interpipe’s business strategy. The Company is constructing a new electric steel smelting complex, Interpipe Steel that adheres to the world’s highest ecological standards and provides maximum environmental protection. In December 2009, the authoritative jury at the First Ukrainian CSR contest nominated Interpipe Steel as the best innovative project in the “Environmental protection” category.
