OREANDA-NEWS. April 12, 2011. Vyksa Steel Works (VSW, Nizhni Novgorod Region), part of United Metallurgical Company (OMK), produced a qualification batch of large-diameter pipes (LDP) in accordance with the specifications of the South Stream Project.

In the near future, the batch of pipes of 32 inches in diameter will be dispatched to the specifications developer to undergo tests that will continue until late this year.

The total demand for pipes for the South Stream Pipeline, which will pass through the Black Sea water area to South and Central European countries, is estimated at 2.5 million tonnes.

Lets us remind that VSW produced its first LDP designed for subsea pipelines in 2006–2007 and obtained the certificate of conformity to the requirements of the standard of Norway-based Det Norske Veritas (DNV). United Metallurgical Company became Russia's and CIS's first qualified producer of pipes according to DNV-OS-F101, which is the world's reference standard applied for the installation of oil and gas pipelines of enhanced quality, wear-resisting properties, and endurance on continental shelves throughout the world.
