OREANDA-NEWS. January 16, 2012. According to the latest figures, shipping volumes on the Russian Railways’ network in December 2011 amounted to 105.5 million tons, exceeding the amount for same month in 2010 year by 5.2%, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

Freight turnover in December 2011 increased compared to December 2010 by 12.2% to 188.1 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs during in December 2011 increased by 13.1% to 239.8 billion ton-kilometres.

Shipping volumes for 2011, according to the latest figures, amounted to 1,241.6 million tons, up 3% on 2010.

The railways carried the following types of freight, with the change compared to 2010 shown in brackets:

coal - 296.2 million tons (+3.5%)

coke - 12.9 million tons (+2.8%)

oil and petroleum products - 250 million tons (-1.1% )

iron and manganese ores - 110.9 million tons (+8.8%)

ferrous metals - 73.5 million tons (+1.1%)

ferrous metals scrap - 20.2 million tons (-3.6 %)

chemical and mineral fertilisers - 46.5 million tons (+2.3%)

cement - 34.5 million tons (+3.5%)

timber - 40.6 million tons (2%)

grain and milling products - 20 million tons (10.5%)

construction materials - 157.8 million tons (10.7%)

non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock - 23.8 million tons (-6.4%)

chemicals, and soda - 28.8 million tons (-0.7%)

industrial raw materials and moulded materials - 33.8 million tons (-6.4%)

containerised cargo - 20.3 million tons (12, 5%).

Freight turnover in 2011 totalled 2.13 trillion tariff-ton km (+5.7%), freight turnover including empty wagon runs, was 2.7 trillion ton km (+8%).
