Government of Ukraine Calls for Development of Livestock
OREANDA-NEWS. March 28, 2012. Government is developing a series of measures aimed at stabilizing the situation in the field of livestock. This was stressed by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov at a meeting with NGOs and experts in the field of cattle breeding.
"We have tasked the heads of regional administrations to create conditions that allow stabilizing the situation in animal husbandry. That is, we will stop the reduction of cattle and start a gradual increase in production of meat and milk. This is a very important task for us" – the Head of the Government said.
He noted that in some regions the problem of reducing cattle numbers are addressed, and in other regions the pace of reduction has slowed.
Mykola Azarov noted that the relevant issue is the development of measures to encourage investment in livestock. "It is extremely important for us is the question of how to promote our business, that it be included in the development of livestock, and at the same time - how to encourage those companies that already operate, engage in modernization and construction of new farms," - PM said. He added that in this work should also be involved the population.
The Prime Minister said that at the beginning of the 1990s in Ukraine 80% meat and milk received from large enterprises and 20% - from the population. Now the situation has changed: 80% of meat and milk comes from the population and only 20% - from large commodity producers. "It is impossible to accelerated development of breeding", - Mykola Azarov said.
