Stadium in Sydney Named after Allianz
OREANDA-NEWS. April 23, 2012.In the framework of multi-year partnership between Allianz Australia and Sydney Cricket Ground Trust (SCG), the Sydney Football Stadium owned by the Trust was renamed the Allianz Stadium. This is the second stadium after Allianz Arena in Munich, which was named after the insurance company.
"Allianz Australia is one of Australia's leading insurance companies and the Trust is delighted to enter into a long-term partnership with such a reputable company. The international and national nature of events staged at Allianz Stadium will result in nationwide coverage and branding," said SCG Trust Chief Executive Jamie Barkley.
Allianz Stadium was built in 1988 and reconstructed in 2007. The capacity of the stadium includes 45,000 people. Besides football matches, the stadium also hosts Aussie Rules and rugby competitions. In addition, Allianz Stadium is often used as a music venue: U2, Bon Jovi, George Michael and many other musicians have performed here.
Allianz Managing Director Terry Towell said the agreement continues Allianz’s global association with world class sports sponsorships. Allianz sponsors many competitions like Formula One, golf tournaments etc. Furthermore, the company is partner of the International Paralympic Committee and one of Bayern Munich FC sponsors.
