TNK-BP Will Institute International Energy Management Standards
OREANDA-NEWS. August 02, 2012. TNK-BP will institute international energy management standards in all of the Company’s enterprises by 2014. OJSC TNK-Nizhnevartovsk (a TNK-BP Group company) has already gone through the certification process successfully and has become Russia’s first company to implement the ISO 50001 energy management system into its technological processes of oil production, reported the press-centre of TNK-BP.
TNK-BP is one of the largest power consumers in Russia; in 2011 the Company’s power expenses totalled \\$1,200 mln. The long term programme of increasing energy efficiency, which TNK-BP has been implementing since 2010, is aimed at decreasing the consumption of energy resources and increasing operational efficiency.
Following the results of an independent audit, TNK-Nizhnevartovsk was certified as compliant with the requirements ISO 50001, a global standard on energy efficiency, which evaluates how energy efficiency is embedded into the current management practices of the company. By the end of 2014, TNK-BP will finish reviewing all its subsidiaries according to this international standard, which will enable it to make the necessary changes and additions to the long term programme of increasing energy efficiency.
“Increasing energy efficiency not only gives TNK-BP a significant economic effect, but is also a part of our efforts to minimise the effect of production activities on the environment,” said Mikhail Slobodin, Executive Vice President, Strategy and New Business Development. “By implementing the most modern technologies and energy management systems, we are using less energy per production unit; the expected economic effect of the programme will be up to USD 100 mln in 2012.”
