OREANDA-NEWS. August 14, 2012. Power engineering specialists of TGC-1 completed the complex of construction and installation works to replace transformer No2 on Verkhne-Tulomskaya HPP.

The new transformer was made in Germany (by Starkstrom-Geratebau GMBH) and is characterized by high reliability and safety. The transformer has a capacity of 160 MVA. The replaced transformer was made by Stromberg, a Swedish company, and worked on the station from the moment of its launch in 1965. It had a capacity of 140 MVA. Another important distinction is that compared to the old equipment, the new transformer requires less oil: 30 tons vs. 38 tons. Special oil-receivers were installed that prevent oil leakage during the mounting.

Relay protection equipment was also replaced on Verkhne-Tulomskaya HPP: the mechanical relays that were installed earlier were replaced by modern microprocessor relays with automated protection against emergencies. Their use enables increasing the sensitivity of protection, and significantly decrease the reaction time; together with high reliability, this can significantly reduce the amount of damage from interruptions of the electrical supply.

The integrated update of the power equipment raises the capacity of the hydroelectric station and increases the production of power. Verkhne-Tulomskaya HPP works in the power control mode and provides a large number of consumers with electricity. The hydroelectric plant is equipped with 4 hydroelectric units and is the most powerful hydroelectric plant of the Polar Region. The installed capacity of the HPP is 268 MW.
