OREANDA-NEWS. October 05, 2012. Domestic sugar refiners already produced 292 thousand tons of sugar. Future plans - to make 1.8 million tons. This is sufficient for domestic needs in Ukraine. Domestic farmers actively started harvesting sugar beets. This was announced by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.

"50 factories now is involved in sugar production, but we plan to involve 70 companies. Now sugar beets harvested from an area of 154 thousand hectares and dig up 5.4 million tons with a yield of 350 cwt/ha.", said the Minister.

Also the head of the Ministry said that as of today is set a minimum price at which sugar is released from the plant – 5.9 thousand UAH per ton. Relative to the price on the shelves - it is a matter of trade networks.
