OREANDA-NEWS. October 09, 2012. Defendec, a Tallinn-based company that develops technology for wireless surveillance systems, is receiving a 1.2 million euro injection from the Development Fund's subsidiary SmartCap and the investment fund Firepower Ventures.

The company's flagship security system, consisting of a cameras triggered by motion detectors, is used to guard international borders and sites such as oil pipelines, especially in remote areas. It is currently used by the Estonian border patrol to prevent illegal border crossing and smuggling.

SmartCap board member Heidi Kakko said Defendec has the potential to make it big because thousands of kilometers of the world's borders and infrastructure are in need of more efficient surveillance.
