OREANDA-NEWS. October 12, 2012. Prague hosted the international conference USA & European Union Days. The event was attended by officials from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as by politicians who had held high public office at various times in the United States and European countries, reported the press-centre of RZD.

Today, Vladimir Yakunin, who is not only President of Russian Railways, but also a Doctor of Political Sciences who holds the Chair of Public Policy at the Faculty of Political Science at Moscow State University, addressed the conference.

Yakunin focused on the development of relations between Europe and the U.S. and in his speech noted that the view from Russia is a view from a geopolitical neighbour with a desire for open and amiable discussion.

He said that Russian Railways was ready to facilitate infrastructure integration between countries and continents. According to Yakunin, the extension of a main railway line of Russian broad-gauge standard to Vienna had already passed all approval stages and could be started soon.

Yakunin also spoke about the ongoing work by Russian Railways to reconstruct the Trans-Korean Main Line. He said that as a result of these projects, an extremely broad and unified transport system would be created which would be capable of offering Europe, Asia and North America unique conditions for economic cooperation.
