OREANDA-NEWS. November 13, 2012. Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, in line with its sustainability agenda, organised a unique drawing competition in the premises of Navodaya Vidyalaya, Munduli to create energy conservation awareness among rural students.

About 535 students from 14 schools participated in the competition and showcased their talent in painting and drawing. The competition was held for students from standard VI to XII.

More than 500 drawing sheets painted with colourful pictures on energy conservation were displayed in the exhibition hall and were witnessed by over 1,000 people including parents, teachers, guests and students from local schools. A panel of judges adjudged the competition and 26 candidates were given prizes at the function. The function was attended by P Thakur, general manager, Odisha projects, as chief guest along with other members of Tata Power's Odisha project team. A team from Tata Institute of Social Science, Mumbai was also present at the occasion and appreciated the talent of rural students.

Prior to the competition, a tree planting drive was also organised in the campus of Sri Jaganath Mandir, Munduli. About 500 saplings of various fruit bearing and ornamental trees were planted in the campus by community members, which was well appreciated by the villagers.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr Thakur said, “Tata Power is committed to sustainability and the company has taken several proactive steps in the area of energy conservation, GHGs and carbon footprint reduction. Our proactive steps in energy conservation include running Club Enerji in schools across the country, organising quizzes, debates, drawing competition seminars and workshops on energy conservation to sensitise public at large.”
