Ukraine: No Grounds for Grain Export Restrictions
OREANDA-NEWS. February 11, 2013. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food continues maintaining a system dialog with grain trading companies to ensure the domestic market to be characterized with stability and predictability.
That’s why the authorities do not plan to introduce any official restrictions for grain export. So, for now the Ministry in collaboration with grain traders clearly determined and agreed export volumes that do not pose any threats for the food security of Ukraine.
In general in 2012 there were produced 15.7 million tons of wheat. Nowadays, taking into account stores of grain and the state of winter grain crops under the harvest of next year, approximate amounts of wheat export are forecast to be 6.1 million tons.
Owing to the system dialog between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food and grain trading companies it proved possible to develop a well-balanced approach to forming of internal grain stores. There are no threats for food security of Ukraine but it still remains question number one in the activity of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food. That’s why owing to following by grain traders conditions of the Memorandum in Ukraine there will preserve necessary stores of wheat, which will help to secure stable prices for social sorts of bread. In the beginning of January of the current year the domestic market possessed around 8.6 billion tons of wheat. By the end of year 5.2 million tons of wheat is to be used in total with 2.6 million tons for food purposes.
For now the grain trading companies have exhausted the planned export volumes of wheat agreed in the limits of dialog with the authorities. The situation on the domestic market of grain remains stable. At this, activity in the wheat segment shortened, however significant growth acquires trade in the corn segment.
