EU to Earmark EUR7 mn for Regional Development in Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. March 20, 2013. This is stipulated by the finance agreement between the government of Moldova and the signed.
Following the signing, acting premier of Moldova Vladimir Filat and head of the EU delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel say the total sum includes 5 mln. euros to be spent on the first component of the program, namely, the development of the regional planning, drawing up a list of investment projects for water supply, rehabilitation of local and national roads, development of infrastructure, enhancement of energy efficient, support to businessmen, etc.
Drawing up of feasibility reports and other technical documents for the investment projects will be also assisted. The second component of the program, the technical assistance, is to be assigned for 2 mln. euros. The funds will be spent to improve regional statistic and bring close statistics standards of Moldova to regional Eurostat standards. Vladimir Filat thanked the EU for supporting regional development of our country in the framework of the pilot regional development program under the Eastern Partnership.
According to Dirk Schuebel, the EU is happy to continue backing Moldova. Moldova’s regional development has advanced a lot and this pilot program is designed to render the country additional assistance to achieve goals of social and economic development of regions, and their institutional and regulatory frameworks. Dirk Schuebel reminded that besides being backed by the EU for promotion of regional development policies, Moldova has been bilaterally assisted by 7 EU countries.
