OREANDA-NEWS. March 29, 2013. Tallinn University of Technology (TUT) is reforming admission to the Open University and expanding opportunities for paid continuing education. Admission to the Open University has begun and runs until September 6.

“The ongoing educational reform allows universities to offer paid continuing education, and, with regard to students’ expectations and high demand for continuing education, TUT offers more learning opportunities,” noted Kalle Tammemae, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at TUT.

“Possibility to draw up an individual study plan and to learn at one’s own pace without the requirements established for traditional students are the main advantages of the TUT continuing education programme,” said Vice-Rector Tammemae.

“Continuing education is the only way for working people to self-improve, to acquire a new speciality, or to pursue their education without becoming full-time students,” explained Tammemae.

All subjects taught in applied higher education, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD level programmes of TUT can be learnt through the open studies programme. Those who have completed their curriculum can defend their final thesis as external students. The benefits intended for full-time students, for example, the possibility to apply for a student loan, do not apply to continuing education students.

Additionally, it is possible to study at TUT as a full-time student for a tuition fee in the Faculty of Social Sciences and in the School of Economics and Business Administration in the following Master’s level programmes in English: Public Administration, Law, Law and Technology, Work and Organizational Psychology, Technology Governance, Business Administration, Finance and Economic Analysis, International Business Administration, and International Relations and European-Asian Studies. Admission to these programmes begins on 26.06.2013.

Current students of the Open University will continue their studies without any changes.  Currently there are 698 students studying in the Open University of TUT.
