OREANDA-NEWS. May 13, 2013. According to the latest figures, the Russian Railways' network loaded 102.7 million tons of freight in April 2013, 3.5% less than in April 2012.

Freight turnover in April 2013 decreased by 1.5% compared to the same month last year, falling to 181.1 billion tariff ton-km. In April 2013, freight turnover including empty wagon runs increased by 1% to 233.2 billion ton-km.

According to the latest figures, loading in January-April 2013 amounted to 396.5 million tons, 4% less than during the same period in 2012.

The Russian Railways' network shipped the following freight. The percentage change compared to January-April 2012 is shown in brackets:

coal - 103.1 million tons (+0.2% );

coke - 3.9 million tons (-5.2%);

oil and petroleum products - 84.3 million tons (-3.3%);

iron and manganese ores - 35.8 million tons (+1.7%);

ferrous metals - 23.8 million tons (-6.6%);

ferrous metal scrap - 4.2 million tons (-10.3%);

chemical and mineral fertilisers - 15.6 million tons (+0.8%);

cement - 9.4 million tons (-1.1%);

timber - 12.2 million tons (-5.3%);

grain - 3.1 million tons (-53.1%);

construction materials - 48.9 million tons (-6.6%);

non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock - 6.6 million tons (-10.7%);

chemicals and soda - 9,000,000 tons (-4.9%);

industrial raw materials and moulded materials - 9.6 million tons (-4.7%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2013 amounted to 706,8 billion tariff ton-km, a fall of -4.1% compared to the analogous period in 2012. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs was up 2.7% to 905.8 billion ton-km.
