OREANDA-NEWS. May 16, 2013. Stats-Secretary, Deputy Head of FAS, Andrey Tsarikovskiy, had a meeting with a delegation of Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) as part of work of a delegation of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) at the 12th Annual Conference of the International Competition Network (ICN).

The parties discussed the prospects of developing Russian – Australian cooperation in competition policy and areas of possible bilateral cooperation between the agencies and under the umbrella of ICN and APEC.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to exchange experience and methods in the field of institutional development of FAS and ACCC. In particular, the Russian delegation explained that FAS was the first of federal executive bodies in Russia certified for compliance with ISO 9001-2008 international management quality standard, which caused tremendous interest of their Australian colleagues.

Summing up the meeting, the parties decided to continue developing cooperation between FAS and Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in competition policy aimed at creating favourable trading-and-economic conditions for companies in both countries.

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (АССС) is an independent government body of the Australian Union. It was formed in 1995 to control enforcement of 1974 Trade Practices Act and other acts. Current objectives are ensuring compliance of physical persons and commercial companies with Competition and Consumer Act 2010, as well as several additional laws, advancing competition, assisting fair trade and regulating national industry-specific infrastructure for the benefit of all Australians.

ACCC is the only national authority responsible for competition and trading activities and law enforcement in Australia.

АССС priorities:

1. Supporting and encouraging development of competition and eliminating shortcoming of market functioning;

2. Protecting consumer interests and safety and supporting fair trade on the markets;

3. Encouraging economically efficient operation, use and investments in the infrastructure of monopolies;

4. Expanding cooperation with the entities regulated by АССС.
