CERN to Open Wide Opportunities for Ukrainian Scientists
OREANDA-NEWS. October 07, 2013. As a part of the official working visit of the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko to Geneva, the agreement between Ukraine and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) on granting Ukraine the status of associate member has been signed.
According to Mr. Gryshchenko, the Agreement provides Ukrainian scientists additional opportunities for basic researches not only using the most modern equipment that exists in the world, but also the opportunities to hold such studies that to be beneficial for Ukrainian economy.
"We joined thanks to this Agreement to the possibilities wider participation of Ukrainian scientists in many programs that today are carried out between Ukrainian centers and CERN. Additional agreements will open more opportunities for such researches," Kostyantyn Gryshchenko said after the signing ceremony.
In addition, according to vice premier, Ukraine’s Association in CERN will transfer preparation and extension of scientists into a new level.
According K. Gryshchenko, important is the fact that this agreement was inked before the signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union.
"In this case, it can be noted that we move in the same direction, ‘cause science is an integral part of our shared values and common space," K. Gryshchenko said.
The Vice Prime Minister expressed confidence that the status of associate member will allow Ukrainian scientific-research institutions and businesses to participate in tenders of CERN and receive orders for various projects in the field of modern applied physics, participate in the creation of new materials, as well as an opportunity develop research in the field of nuclear medicine and technology, nanotechnology and more.
