Ukraine and Estonia Signed Document on Cooperation in Transport Sphere
OREANDA-NEWS. The Protocol of Intent between the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of the Republic of Estonia on Cooperation in the Sphere of Development of Transport Corridor between the Baltic and Black Seas has been signed in Tallinn, in the presence of President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and President of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves.
The Protocol provides for the establishment of favorable conditions for the development of transport communications between the Black and Baltic Seas, broadening of mutually beneficial cooperation in the sphere of logistics, transportation of cargo and passengers. Particular attention has been paid to the increase of potential and competitiveness of container train “Zubr”.
The Protocol will allow:
continuing the development of transport corridor for transit between the Black and Baltic Seas on the basis of container trains, particularly common container train “Zubr”;
increasing the number of countries taking part in the functioning of the existing route. It particularly concerns Turkey and Scandinavia;
intensifying activity on the attraction of additional cargo and geographic expansion of freight transportation routes through the involvement of interested countries and the establishment of competitive tariff conditions.
The bill of the Protocol provides for the intensification of cooperation not only between the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of the Republic of Estonia, but also between the railway administrations of the two countries.
